Back in Canada, Back to Blogging

Hello from Vancouver! I decided to write down a few things about my current 3 week trip to Canada. This blog was actually created for my Work&Travel year in 2006/07. I never quite finished it towards the end. If anybody read this blog from the beginning, I might quickly finish my former reports:

In February 2007 I joined Frank Turner's Crew for the Yukon Quest, which meant driving the dog truck, writing race news to Anne from the checkpoints, picking up dropped dogs, giving weather and trail conditions informations to Frank, assisting for the Camp in Dawson and so on... Later on we had some indescribable busy days at Muktuk during the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse. (Many athletes were doing day trips with the dogs...) After that I spent three weeks in Old Crow, Yukon in March 2007. Old Crow is the isolated village of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation People and has about 300 inhabitants. I visited Kerrie and Shel there, who I got to know at Muktuk earlier in summer 2006. In Old Crow I worked at a recycling depot, hauled wood with Shel, helped for the Dagoo 300 dog race, saw some amazing northern lights and just had a good time. End of march I came back to Muktuk and left Canada the first days of April via Vancouver. I came back to Canada in summer 2007 for 4 weeks, similar to what I'm doing right now. Unfortunately at that time I didn't continue this blog, but this time I will.

Yesterday (04/13/09) I arrived at Vancouver airport and went straigt to downtown. CurrentlyI'm staying at the HI Downtown, which is a bit quieter than the HI Central, but not further from the Waterfront. I met Patricia and Alex from Germany, who are starting their work&travel year these days and were on the flight with me from Frankfurt. I went jogging in the Stanley Park right away. Was a bit cool, but sunny and beautiful. See pictures further down. At night I met with Tanja, who I know from Karlsruhe (my study place). She's also doing the work&travel thing here right now. We went to Spaghetti factory in Gastown. I learnt that there's the 10k "Sun Run" next sunday in Vancouver. I'm considering to rescdhedule my flight to Yukon on th 18th by one day, in order to participate in this run. I have to see how that works out. Soon I'm taking the ferry to meet with Ron and Belinda at Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. Will be great to see them again! Weather is nice. Germany was much warmer (25C), but at least its not raining here. So much for now.
